About My Music
All the music that appears under the Busted Keys moniker and videos in bustedkeys.com are covers, mixes, remixes, mashups, and the like. They are my way of developing my skills as a songwriter and performing musician until I make a more aggressive push into original material.
Though most of my videos each contain a combination of songs not originally written by me I try to give them a unique spin resulting in a well-crafted arrangement and derivative work predominantly centered around a main song. The surrounding songs mixed in reinforce the sound, theme, or emotion of the main song and therefore make a point as its unique arrangement. It’s forced, I know, but I’m just trying to improve my chops, remember?
So why “Busted Keys?”
My, uh… “unique character.”
I’ve busted many of the keys on my upright piano: 2 As, 2 C#s, 1 D, 1 F#…and counting. (That almost looks like my grades in school.) Not to mention I’ve also busted most of the workstation buttons on my JV-1000 keyboard you see in my videos. And recently a friend of mine pointed out to me the “5″ on my BlackBerry is busted as well.
On a more serious note, there is a storytelling component to each of my mashups and the hope in them is to provide something more substantial for you than another sensationalist monkey screaming desperately at you to “Subscribe!” “Rate!” or “Comment!” like on their YouTube pages to capture the vanity flag.
Since YouTube however has limited description space on the right columns of their individual video pages (e.g. at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT5BQJ5r2YY) my music video blog posts here would be an extended elaboration of my “Inspired Moments” mentioned there.
Also as extensions of the way I share my music, I will likely experiment with WordPress and marketing techniques as they improve alongside my performances. Those ways of getting the word out could involve thought-provoking posts and keyword tags. Pictures and other video footage also come to mind however their presentation will be an evolving endeavor to reach towards any sense of coherency.
